BONIN, O'FARRELL, AND LaBONGE
COLORFULLY PROTEST ANTI-LGBT LAWS IN RUSSIA.

City Councilmembers and LGBT community leaders attached a rainbow flag to the St. Petersburg sign on the Sister Cities landmark at First and Main Streets in Downtown Los Angeles as part of a protest over discriminatory and dangerous anti-LGBT laws on Russia.

The symbolic protest was one in a series of actions Councilmembers Mike Bonin, Mitch O'Farrell and Tom LaBonge took in response to the approval of laws in Russia that criminalizes expression of "non traditional sexual relations."

In addition to the protest at the Sister Cities landmark, the Councilmembers introduced a resolution to the City Council calling on the Federal Government to immediately and aggressively expand asylum programs offered to people facing persecution because of sexual orientation and gender identity around the world.
