We did it! Sister Cities of Los Angeles, Inc. kicked off Bordeaux-Los Angeles: A 50 Year Partnership last week at the Patron Reception at the LA Art Show on January 15th. Sister Cities celebrated the 50th Anniversary between the City of Los Angeles and the City of Bordeaux with a once-in-a-lifetime event that included exclusive wines by Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, food by Bordeaux-Los Angeles chosen chef of note, John Sedlar of Rivera Restaurant, and art exhibits featuring Cheech Marin’s The Chicano Collection / La Colección Chicana, photography from Gil Garcetti, and works from participating Los Angeles and Bordeaux artists of the France Los Angeles Residency Exchange (FLARE) program. Attendees also enjoyed a special performance from surprise musical guest, Raul Pacheco from Ozomatli, who played a short set with one of Cheech Marin's Blazing Chicano Guitars. It was also an exciting night for Councilmember Tom LaBonge, Chairman of Sister Cities of Los Angeles, Inc., who received honors for his dedication and service to Sister Cities and local and international arts in the City of Los Angeles. Bill Boerum, Boardmember of Sister Cities International, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, Chairman of the Arts, Parks, Health, Aging & River Committee for the City of Los Angeles, and Rick Jacobs, Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, were all on hand to salute Councilmember LaBonge for his unwavering support to the City and its international partners.
Stay tuned for more events this year!

To help raise funds for the 2014 celebration of the 50-year partnership between the City of Los Angeles and its French Sister City, Bordeaux, Cheech Marin has designated the donation of one limited-edition portfolio of unframed fine art prints, printed by Richard Duardo, from The Chicano Collection / La Colección Chicana to be sold during the LA Art Show. Proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Sister Cities of Los Angeles, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to support this year-long cultural exchange.
